FAQs

What can we help you with today?

Residential treatment means your teen lives at Meadow Hill and receives therapy, psychiatric care and school support every day in a structured, supervised setting with staff present 24/7. It's usually the right level of care when weekly therapy or day programs haven't been enough, or after an inpatient psychiatric stay when the treatment team recommends a step-down. Our admissions team can talk through your teen's situation and tell you honestly whether residential care fits.

No. Meadow Hill is a residential program only. We do not offer IOP, partial hospitalization (PHP) or outpatient services. When your teen is ready to leave, our team helps line up outpatient care or a step-down program near home.

Meadow Hill serves adolescents ages 12 to 18. The program is designed only for teens. It is not an adult program with a teen track.

We treat depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, trauma and PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, psychosis, oppositional defiant disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, borderline personality traits and parent–child relational problems, along with appropriate co-occurring substance use.

Days are structured. They include individual and group therapy, academic time, meals, recreation, family contact and downtime, with staff supervision around the clock. Teens also meet with our psychiatric team for evaluation and medication management as needed. Admissions can walk you through a sample daily schedule.

Most teens stay about 30–45 days; length of stay is individualized. It depends on each teen's progress and clinical needs, and we review progress with families regularly. Discharge planning begins at admission. Admissions can give you a sense of what to expect for your teen's situation.

Yes. Teens receive academic support every day, and our team coordinates with your teen's home school to help them stay on track. Ask admissions how school hours and credits are handled for your teen's district.

No. Personal phones and devices are not allowed; they go home with family or are stored safely until discharge. Teens have two phone-call times each day, and parents can call the program to ask for extra time.

Families are part of treatment. Staff arrange scheduled phone or video calls with approved family members, and parents take part in family therapy and treatment planning. Visiting and family-session schedules are set with your teen's treatment team, and admissions can explain how they work before you decide.

We have no waitlist and accept admissions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Timing depends on a quick clinical review of recent records and an insurance check, which we start as soon as we hear from you or your teen's provider.

We work with PPO out-of-network benefits. Free insurance check in 24 hours.

Yes. Many of the families we work with live in New York. Northampton is about 3 to 3.5 hours from New York City, 2.5 to 3 hours from Westchester and about 1.5 to 2 hours from Albany, close enough for parents to drive up for family sessions and visits. A parent or legal guardian consents to treatment, just as they would closer to home.

Yes. Hospital social workers, discharge planners, psychiatrists and therapists can call (413) 252-6730 or use our Refer a Patient form. We review records, check insurance and, if your teen is a good fit, set an admission time that lines up with the hospital's discharge. Admissions can talk through travel and arrival arrangements with your family.

Yes. Meadow Hill is accredited by The Joint Commission (ID #734243) and licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) as an adolescent residential mental health program, license #9204553.

Discharge planning starts early. Our team works with you to line up next steps near home, such as a therapist, psychiatrist or step-down program, so your teen has support in place the day they leave.
